Derby Name and Number? How did you come up with it?
-Fonda Dixnshoes 6 1/2" min. A few of my closest friends were helping me pick out names– we also had Mayhem Blahnik and Ms. Mojo Risin. The second I told Classy Chassis my three names, she laughed and said, "Well, you have to be Fonda."
Where did you grow up?
-Williamstown, NJ (though I hate admitting I'm from NJ)
What made you start playing roller derby?
-I had heard about it when I was living in West Virginia and saw that Whip It movie. Unfortunately, at the time there was no derby team in WV, so the second I moved to Philly, I bought some skates, worked on my skills and waited for try outs.
What is your pre-game routine?
-It has changed quite a bit– I used to get nervous before games and would take care of business to relax myself. But now, I just take a nap.
What is your favorite off-skates workout?
-Long walks on the beach, drunkly riding my bike home, fighting with ex-Marines... Seriously, I do a lot of lunges, squats and wall-sits to keep my legs strong.
What is your favorite position to play and why?
-Blocker, hands down. I love destroying jammers' hopes and dreams of scoring.
Worst derby-related injury?
-Hyper-extending my MCL at Battle on the Bank in San Diego. It was completely devastating to know you've trained for months and you couldn't be out there with your team for the rest of the tournament.
What is the most rewarding part of being a member of Penn Jersey Roller Derby?
-The people. I moved to Philly not knowing a soul and when I joined I immediately had 60+ new friends. I hate thinking how my life would be if I didn't have PJRD... quite dull I imagine.
As a member of a bitracksual league, tell us how you feel about the banked track versus the flat track.
-It's no secret that I loathe the flat track. If I never play a flat track game again I would be happy. There's nothing better than the banked track, the power it gives you, the hits you can give. I feel sorry for people who are too scared to get up there because there's nothing else like it. It's almost better than shoes and dix...almost.
What inspires you most when training?
-I want everyone to fear me.
