PJRD

How did you come up with your name and number?

My friend came up with the name and it fit so perfectly at the time. I was the youngest skater when I first joined PJRD, so I thought, a spin off of Cinderella was a good route to go. The number 9 is my lucky number.

What is your favorite position and why?

Blocker... Lets just say, I live up to my name.

What made you start playing roller derby?

I saw it on TV and it was love at first sight. I said, "I can do that." and so I did!

What is your pre-game routine?

I usually try to take it easy the day of the game to mentally prepare. I eat carbs, and listen to hard rock/metal music to get pumped.

What was your favorite childhood movie?

Labyrinth.

Where did you grow up?

Jackson, NJ... where Six Flags is. I came to Philly for school and never left.

What is the most rewarding part of being a member of Penn Jersey Roller Derby?

I love skating with the men. They add another level of challenge to practices because they are very skilled skaters and block harder than the girls. I like that I am able to hit them as hard as I can without hurting them. Our men's team has grown in numbers and in skill, and they are such an important part of our league. Being able to skate with (and sometimes against) my boyfriend of 4 years has been a very rewarding experience as well. I'm glad I can go to practice with my boyfriend and that roller derby is something we both can share.

As a member of a bitracksual league, tell us how you feel about the banked track verses the flat track?

Anyone can skate on a flat track, but not everyone can skate on a banked track. Its an entirely different animal... and WAY more fun!

What inspires you most when training?

My fellow skaters inspire me... If I see someone trying something different, I might get an idea for a new move or a new drill we need to try, or if I see someone doing something new, then I NEED to learn it NOW. Everyone is always open to giving constructive critisisms, which only makes the league stronger, because we are always progressing.

Beatrix R. ForkidsKiddo

What's the significance of your derby name and number?

Beatrix R. Forkids is derived from a play on words from Uma Thurman's character in Kill Bill and the popular saying, 'tricks are for kids'. My number 5678 is actually the name of the band that plays in Kill Bill preceding an awesome fight scene.

How did you get started playing roller derby?

I was too young in high school when a friend discovered it, and I rediscovered it after college when I saw "Whip It". I did a quick google search and decided that derby would be great to get in shape and meet new friends.

What is your favorite thing about skating with PJRD?

I love the sense of family. We really are a big family, dysfunction and all.

What was the last thing you ate?

A reese's cup in the shape of a christmas tree and ibuprofen.

What is your favorite off-skates workout?

Running and yoga.

Quizzo!
